Chamonix in Summer
Unlike many other Alpine resorts, Chamonix is as vibrant and exciting in the summer as it is in winter. In fact, Chamonix hosts three times as many visitors during the summer season than it does in winter!
Activities
In addition to the year-round activities, the following come out when the sun does!
| Climbing | The best range of climbing available in the Alps draws back thousands of climbers year after year. |
| Walking |
Countless tracks from either the valley floor or the top of one of the
lifts ensure that there's a trek for everybody, through some of the most
amazing scenery the Alps has to offer.
For those who prefer something different, head down to Les Houches where there's a 30 minute walk through the tree-tops! After being attached to a safety rope, you then get to walk through the tops of the trees via an array of rope bridges, taking in a rather different perspective than usual. |
| Sightseeing |
Take the Montenvers funicular to view the spectacular Mer de Glace, at
7km long, the largest glacier in Europe. At the top, there's an
ice grotto with fantastic sculptures that is carved out each year.
Alternatively, take the lift up to the Aiguille du Midi lift and wonder at the size and scale of Mont Blanc and the surrounding massif. |
| Parapenting | A hot day in Chamonix will see the skies filled with dozens of parapenters, with numerous schools providing tandem flights for first-timers wishing to see what all the fuss is about! |
| Mountain Biking | The Chamonix valley provides perfect natural terrain for all mountain-bikers, from the beginner to the most extreme downhiller. Depending on your preference, you can either cycle up one of the numerous mountain paths or take the lift up to the top before heading back down again. |
| Watersports | The River Arve and its numerous lakes provide a great area for all kinds of watersports, from kayaking to white-water rafting to windsurfing. |
| Leisure |
A luge runs down the main slope outside the chalet throughout the summer,
providing fun and thrills for all.
There are two swimming pools in Chamonix: the municipal "water complex", with an outdoor 50m pool and waterslides, and the smaller one outside the Wild Wallabies bar, perfect for a relaxing afternoon! |
